"KIOSK is an always Hungarian, modern idea that loves and respects tradition and quality. Luckily for us, we are just getting into it. From the beginning, my goal was to make KIOSK a truly integral part of Budapest. To create a stylish downtown meeting place that is both high class and yet local. If you look at the guests and stars who have visited us since we opened, I'm proud to say that it has become an unmissable landmark in Budapest. There is no better recognition than to have our friends from abroad come to our home."
Hubert Hlatky-Schlichter has been a gastronomic entrepreneur and philanthropist for twenty-five years. The places he has created are synonymous with the joie de vivre, joy and celebration. Hubert believes that success is only valid if you don't reap it alone, which is why he likes to share the credit. That's why he created the Helping Angels Foundation, through which he has carried out many charitable projects. His kitchen regularly cooks for the needy, but he has also organised a medical team to the poorest country in the world, Malawi. KIOSK's founder is a firm believer in uniting our society, not dividing it: hatred and hate lead nowhere, but love unites us.
KIOSK Budapest is right where life started in Pest. The place is history itself, which has always been Budapest's trump card: a heritage we carry with us to the present day. It was here that the Romans passed through, the centre and marketplace of Pest from the Middle Ages, the baths in Turkish times (the church was a mosque), and the city's first secondary school at the dawn of the Enlightenment. Known as the Teaching Order, the Piarists were invited by the citizens of Pest themselves, who believed that without education their city would be less than it was worth. Our restaurant moved into the former gymnasium of the still-operating grammar school, a vast, imposing space envisioned from birth by Hubert Hlatky-Schlichter, the philanthropic founder of KIOSK, as a community-building, metropolitan meeting place.
Let's dwell on the spirit of the place for a moment: the square next to the City Hall that once stood here continued to be one of the most important meeting places, meaning that fairs were usually held here until a young poet once read out the 12 points he had formulated with his ardent peers. The morning of 15 March 1848 was that day, the rest is history. Today, KIOSK, as the eponymous Turkish word means, is a place where you can get it all. It's a thousand faces: by day you'll find one of the city's best-selling lunch menus, by night it's a popular dinner spot with a sophisticated bar and pastry shop, and at weekends it's a cool hangout. Its unique atmosphere makes you want to come back.
From the very beginning, it has been a metropolitan
meeting place where
classic meets
bold,
contemporary innovation meets timeless
beauty.
Trends may come and go, but
KIOSK has faithfully preserved
its own
identity, easily
distinguishable from others, and since 2013
it has been breathing with the city,
an integral part of Budapest.
Formal dining, the city's
most hypnotic
events and happenings,
all in frivolous elegance
every day of the week.
