Every season has its typical delicacies, including winter. Just say the name of these delicacies and you're greeted by a snowy landscape, a roaring fire, steaming tea and beautiful lights. In today's post, we've collected a collection of sweet wonders that can create a winter wonderland with a single bite.
Gundel pancakes
The Hungarian delicacy is the work of Károly Gundel, who filled the pancakes with walnuts, rum and raisins and served them with a sauce made of dark chocolate, cocoa and cream and egg yolk. Its nutty, rum flavour evokes the festive winter season, while the silky chocolate glaze fills the body and soul with warmth. You can taste the Gundel pancakes at Kiosk with orange white chocolate mousse and walnut ice cream!
The bejgli
If it's winter, it's Christmas, if it's Christmas, it's bejgli! The maths is as simple as that, there are few households in the country where bejgli, or at least the taste of bejgli, is not a Christmas treat. Usually filled with poppy seeds and walnuts, but more recently chestnuts, sour cherries or even dried fruit can be added to the dough of the bejgli, which is otherwise a pastry.
The poppy seed bean
At Christmas, the most popular holiday of the year, poppy seed beans are still a traditional sweet in many families. Its origins go back to the ancient belief that thousands of poppy seeds would bring abundance and good luck in the New Year. Kiosk has reimagined this special winter treat, serving its poppy seed Guba with a layer of mirror-smooth caramel, soft vanilla custard, crunchy crumbs and poppy seed ice cream.
Gingerbread
Its spicy aroma evokes the Christmas spirit at any time of the year, even though it is traditionally baked in preparation for the festival of love. This gingerbread, made with just a few key ingredients, has become synonymous with winter magic for millions of people. Did you know that gingerbread was made in Hungary in the Middle Ages?
The soufflé
French cuisine has given us many gems, one of which is the soufflé. The secret of this simple but very showy dessert lies in the air that puffs up the dough, making it very airy. The best thing about winter soufflé is the chocolate lava that oozes out of the cake, which you can taste at Kiosk with a cardamom blood orange sorbet.
The snowball
A true classic, the snowball is a coconut-coated cake that reminds us of a snowball, while its creamy filling and soft sponge cake evoke the softness of winter blankets and the experience of huddling up in them. Simple, but still great, it's an unstoppable treat.
Winter delicacies are a must for the Christmas table. Dressed up in festive finery, they warm the heart and soul with their taste and appearance. Of course, they're all at their best when eaten with loved ones!
